專家簡介：Bruce Applebaum，男，美國國務院英語語言學者，2012年9月至今受邀執教蘇州大學。美國波士頓人，獲得TESOL碩士學位，1999-2009年在日本、韓國、印度尼西亞和阿拉伯聯合酋長國等亞洲和中東國家從事英語教學，2010-2012年執教北京師範大學。自去年秋季以來開設全校開放性“美國曆史與文化系列講座”，第一場關于美國總統大選。

講座内容簡介：The Cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union started at the end of the 1940’s and continued until the 1989 with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the emergence of a new Russia.  In between there were wars, spies and witch hunts.     This lecture will examine this important part of American history.  It will look at the causes of the cold war, proxy wars fought between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, its impact on U.S. politics and what caused the Soviet Union to finally collapse under its own weight.    The lecture will involve participants in discussion and debate.  It will invite them to draw their own conclusions about what impact the Cold War has had on the new century.
